Concertos for Orchestra Nos. 1-3

Goffredo Petrassi's reputation began to grow in 1932 when his "Partita" was warmly received. Petrassi subsequently composed his Concerto for orchestra, the first of eight, which gained him recognition outside Italy when it premiered in 1935. The second concerto from 1951 displays more avant-garde tendencies, while the third concerto from 1952-53 is lively and playful. Francesco La Vecchia was the permanent conductor and artistic director of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, which he founded, for 14 years and served as principal guest conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker for five years. He is an honorary member of the Beijing Conservatory, professor emeritus at Seoul University and ambassador of the United Nations and the FAO for culture in the world. The Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma has produced an extensive and critically acclaimed series of recordings of important compositions by 19th and 20th century Italian composers, including Ferruccio Busoni, Alfredo Catalani, Franco Ferrara, Giorgio Federico Ghedini, Gian Francesco Malipiero, Mancinelli, Luigi Martucci, Saverio Mercadante, Goffredo Petrassi, Giovanni Sgambati and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari. Many of these recordings are world premieres.
