Violist Miclen LaiPang makes his solo debut at Delos with a deeply personal recital. With music that has accompanied him through the years, "Deep River" follows a path along styles and places that have been important in his life. Like a flowing stream, this program moves from its source through different landscapes, crosses borders and opens itself to new encounters as it progresses. It reflects a life characterized by movement between countries, cultures and musical worlds. Works such as "Deep River" and "Nobody knows de trouble I've seen" bring echoes of home to the surface and represent Miclen's youth and the United States, while Dedication, Liebesleid and the Rosenkavalier waltzes are associated with his time in Germany and Austria and Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 is associated with his current home in France. Together with pianist Nigel Yandell, Miclen will perform on the Antonio Stradivari violin "Charles Castleman, ex-Marquis de Champeaux", generously loaned to him by the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
