Diabelli-Variationen & Hercher-Variationen

Each part of this double album consists of a work of 33 variations by Franz Hummel. On the one hand, he felt challenged by Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and also composed 33 variations on the same theme. During a commemorative concert in Riedenburg after Hummel's death on 20 August 2022, his three master students Yojo Christen, Christoph Preiß and Alexander Maria Wagner performed these variations so vividly and reinterpreted them anew that the desire arose to record this experience on CD. The second CD contains the Hercher Variations, composed by Franz Hummel between 2017 and 2019 and recorded by Christoph Preiß. What is particularly noteworthy is that apart from these two works by Hummel, there are few cycles with 30 or more variations to be found in the well-known piano literature.
