Musical conversations of the highest level
The church cantata occupied an important place early on in the oeuvre of J.S. Bach, but it was only in the various cycles of his Leipzig period that stylistic innovations found their way into this genre. The third cycle, with its three relatively small dialogue cantatas, is a fine example of "madrigalizing": Arias, recitatives and chorales testify to sometimes daring poetry and an eloquence worthy of the art of song. Thanks to the moving artistry of the two performers, united in shared inspiration, musical conversations of the highest brilliance can be experienced here.
