Brian Berryman, Concert des Amis
In his Echoes of Edinburgh, flutist Brian Berryman takes us back to 18th-century Scotland: in the Scottish music scene of that time, there was still no clear boundary between "folk music" and "art music". With his ensemble Concert des Amis, Berryman attempts a balancing act and places traditional Scottish folk music alongside works by classical composers from Edinburgh who reference traditional melodies. The guitar and the bodhrán, a Celtic frame drum, provide the special authentic "drive" for the strings and the harpsichord.
