The largest amount of organ music that has survived from earlier family members of Johann Sebastian Bach comes from the pen of Johann Michael Bach (1648-1694), a cousin of the father of J. S. Bach and also the father of Maria Barbara, the first wife of J. S. Bach. It is a collection of chorale preludes covering the entire church year, although it cannot be claimed that this collection is as ambitious and complete as Johann Sebastian's own (incomplete) organ booklet. Most of these chorales are found in the Neumeister collection, which also contains a number of early works by Johann Sebastian with clear links to compositions by his first father-in-law.
