Electric Fields
Barbara Hannigan, Katia & Marielle Labeque, David Chalmin
On the album "Electric Fields" you can hear arrangements of centuries-old vocal music in modern arrangements, but also new compositions for soprano, piano and live electronics. The meditative compositions of the medieval polymath Hildegard von Bingen form the starting point for this album. Hildegard's texts touch on the spiritual realm both in Latin and in the lingua ignota invented by her. The popular love songs of two Italian Baroque composers, Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini, also served as inspiration for this album. Various works by American composer Bryce Dessner complete the eclectic programme. Soprano Barbara Hannigan and pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque are accompanied by composer and performer David Chalmin on this fascinating journey through meditative and atmospheric musical spheres. Together they create an intense and unique sound cosmos.
