in 1777 Mozart met the wealthy Ferdinand Dejean, an amateur flutist and retired surgeon of the Dutch East India Company. Dejean commissioned various works from the young composer, whom he described as "simple, short concertinos". Nevertheless, these pieces, which require great virtuosity and feeling for tonal nuances from the soloist, remain very popular to this day. Shortly afterwards, during his stay in Paris, Mozart wrote another concerto, this time for a flute-playing aristocrat and his harp-playing daughter as a soloist duo - both "admirable musicians" according to Mozart. In contrast to Dejean, this noble virtuoso had a modern instrument with eight keys, which meant that the flute could reach middle C and play in the - previously impractical - key of C. Supported by A Nocte Temporis, the ensemble she founded together with Reinoud Van Mechelen in 2016, flutist Anna Besson, today one of the most renowned instrumentalists of her generation, has recorded these evergreens. In the concerto for flute and harp she was assisted by the exceptional solo harpist Clara Izambert.
