From Another World

"From Another World" is more than just an album title: it is an invitation for a journey through the centuries, across continents and through emotions. Central to it is the encounter between two musical traditions: the elegance and structure of European classical music and the expressive rhythm of Argentine tango. The Guttman Tango Quintet builds a bridge between these worlds. It consists of musicians who, under the direction of violist Michael Guttman, draw from both traditions in a completely natural way. In "From Another World," tango is not nostalgia. It is evolution. Just as Astor Piazzolla once brought tango from the dance hall to the concert hall, Guttman enters into a dialogue with the classics that shaped Western music. Each track on this album begins with a familiar theme (Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Dvořák and others) and lets it travel to Buenos Aires. What emerges in the process is neither parody nor pastiche, but a transformation. This debut album, recorded in January 2025 at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, captures a moment of creative alchemy: an ensemble of classical virtuosos surrendering to the irresistible allure of tango.
