The violist and composer Marco Anzoletti was born in 1867 in a musical family in Trento. His father was a cellist and his uncles pianists and violinists. At the age of 22, he already held the chair of violin at the Milan conservatory. In addition to five operas and numerous works for violin, Anzoletti also wrote a handful of songs, including settings of poems by his sister Luisa and an unusual cycle of variations on texts by librettist and composer Arrigo Boito. The album by soprano Gabriella Costa and pianist Alberto Nones contains Anzoletti's complete song oeuvre in a premiere recording.
