Goldmark and Sibelius: Works for violin and orchestra

This recording brings together two great composers for violin: Karl Goldmark and Jean Sibelius. The starting point is their actual meeting in Vienna, where Goldmark was among the teachers of the young Sibelius – an inspiring connection that has inspired violinist Sueye Park to create this program. Central to it is Goldmark's rarely heard Violin Concerto in A minor op. 28 – a work that combines virtuosity, Hungarian tone color and German Romanticism. This is complemented by concertante works by Sibelius, including the late Suite for violin and string orchestra, the "Serious Melodies" and the two Humoresques op. 87 – music that blends Nordic elegance, lyrical intimacy and brilliant virtuosity. The frequently award-winning Korean violinist Sueye Park, winner of the International Jean Sibelius Competition 2025, impresses with technical mastery and a fine sense of tone colors. She is accompanied by the venerable Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under the direction of Valentin Egel, one of the most promising young conductors of his generation.
