Sebastian Berner is one of the most outstanding trumpeters of his generation: in 2022 he won first prize at the International Maurice André Competition in Paris and he is principal trumpet of the Radio Symphonie Orkest Frankfurt. While the Trumpet Concerto by Henri Tomasi from 1948 is fairly well known, the Concertino for Trumpet and Orchestra by the Belgian Joseph Jongen from 1913 is heard much less often, and the concert by his student Léon Stekke from July 1937 is recorded here for the first time. Another world premiere is Les Chants de Kervéléan by Charles Koechlin, which was transcribed for trumpet and orchestra in 2008 by Robert Orlidge. Finally, the Suite in three parts by Florent Schmitt premiered in 1956 with Maurice André in its orchestral version.
