Hommage a Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

Baritone Benjamin Appl pays tribute to his mentor Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, whose hundredth birthday we celebrate in 2025. "The first time I heard his voice was at school when I was twelve years old. In 2009 I enrolled in his masterclass at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, which was the beginning of a long and transformative relationship. I was fortunate to work with him for countless hours on my entire repertoire in his flats in Berlin and Berg." This album, a 140-page cd-book with a personal text written by Appl and numerous previously unpublished photographs and letters, offers us an insight into Fischer-Dieskau as a person, alongside his clear public successes and tributes. The repertoire of this moving recording is structured according to the major phases of his life and contains compositions by family members Albert and Klaus Fischer-Dieskau, but also repertoire he sang as a soldier in the Second World War and as a prisoner of war in Italy, specially commissioned works composed for him, and some of his favourite Schubert songs.
