In dolce abbandono

The mezzo-soprano Megan Kahts, born in South Africa, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she has lived since 2009. She performs internationally and specializes in the performance of early and contemporary music and has won coveted prizes at prestigious competitions. She is both a stage performer and a chamber musician. She began her musical training as a pianist and started a singing career as a teenager in South Africa before honing her skills in the heart of the classical music tradition in Europe. The Carestini Ensemble Vienna was founded by Megan Kahts with fellow musicians with whom she has worked closely on various Baroque opera and chamber music projects. The ensemble specializes primarily in works from the eighteenth century. Händel, Hasse, Gluck, Caldara and other composers wrote parts and roles for the castrato singer Giovanni Carestini, in whose spirit the ensemble is named. All members of the ensemble are based in Vienna and specialize in historical performance practice, that is, they play on historical instruments.
