In Violone Impertinente

The project "il violone impertinente" wants to create a small short circuit with this false repertoire of the baroque double bass by bringing these pieces back to their original source, basing itself on manuscripts or old prints and drawing from the experience of a historically informed performance practice by playing them on a double bass that is a copy of an old instrument with a baroque frame. The pieces take on a new character that clearly differs from that of a modern double bass, in particular through the specific sound qualities of this type of violin: thinner, less taut gut strings, a different fingerboard, other less obvious differences in the construction of the instrument and the use of a baroque bow made of different wood with a different curve, which produces its own sound. It is as if a violinist from that time, who defied the conventions that confined him to a purely supporting role, rose up against these circumstances and wanted to prove his ambitions as a soloist, even as a virtuoso. As everyone knows, the art of copying was very lively and widespread throughout the entire baroque period.
