Sir Andrew Davis was a talented pianist and organist from childhood and adolescence. After studying with Peter Hurford in St Albans, he spent four years at the University of Cambridge as organist at King's College under Sir David Willcocks. During that time, he discovered his love and appreciation for the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach, which inspired him throughout his life. Sir Andrew made all the transcriptions on this album for the BBC Philharmonic, four of which were recorded in November 2023. Sadly, Sir Andrew passed away before the final recordings for the album could take place (September 2024). Fortunately, he had already completed the arrangements. Martyn Brabbins completed the recordings with the sense of style, love and affection that the works deserve and that Sir Andrew Davis would certainly have been satisfied with.
