The German pianist and music teacher Theodor Kullak, who studied piano with Carl Czerny among others, had a brilliant career. His transcriptions, arrangements and etudes have proved timeless, while his lesser-known original works contain a treasure trove of impressive pianistic tonal colors. The thoughtful and dramatic Grande Sonata in Fis minor reveals the influence of Felix Mendelssohn and Ludwig van Beethoven, and the 'Symphonie de Piano' shows elements of Robert Schumann and Kullak's fondness for Italian models. Virtuosic power and elegant salon style are also present in the smaller works in this selection.
The Ukrainian pianist Roman Fediurko won a number of first prizes at major competitions and crowned his career at just 18 years old with the gold medal and five special prizes at the prestigious Horowitz Concours.
