La musique vient quand elle veut...

Musique en Wallonie honors the Belgian composer Lucie Vellere with a double-cd. When she won first prize in 1957 in the International composition competition for female composers, organized by Grace Spofford and the American branch of the Conseil international de femmes, Lucie Vellere came into the public eye for the first time in her life. The composer, who had always been reserved, suddenly aroused curiosity. During her 50-year career as a composer, Vellere cultivated an art of the melodic line that can be compared to the curved forms of Art Nouveau - the aesthetic that also influenced many composers of her time, such as the early Debussy of the Arabesques. She incorporated numerous elements of pictorial, poetic and musical impressionism; at the same time, Vellere always strived for classical clarity and moderation. This recording highlights the versatile oeuvre of the composer - with pieces for voice and piano, string quartets and octets, women's choir and piano music. A sonorous panorama that reveals numerous facets of her personality.
