The debut recording of the Canada-based period instrument ensemble L’Harmonie des Saisons explores the baroque music of Spain’s New World colonies. Though the names of many great composers of New Spain remain largely unknown to us, the splendid musical works they created in the 17th, and 18th centuries for the courts and cathedrals of the colonies of Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador are brought to life on this recording, several for the first time.
