Matthäus-Passion 1769

in 1767 C.P.E. Bach succeeded his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann as music director in Hamburg. Two years later he delivered the Matthäus Passion H. 782, the first of his annual passion settings, which after the end of the war was long considered lost until the music archive of the Berlin Singakademie in Kiev was rediscovered in 1999. This important key work was first performed by Ton Koopman after the rediscovery in 2002 and is presented here on FRA BERNARDO in a rousing concert recording from the Minoritenkirche in Vienna.
