Malta, located between Southern Europe and North Africa, has historically been an artistic melting pot that forms one of the most important cultural hubs of the Mediterranean region. Charlene Farrugia's album contains five fascinating, contrasting Maltese works from the Romantic period to the modern era, three of which are world premieres. With its intense pianistic colors, Charles Camilleri's "African Dreams" explores the indigenous rhythms and melodic lines of this continent, while Carmelo Pace and Carlo Diacono delve into the worlds of Liszt and Chopin. Josie Mallia Pulvirenti's rarely heard "Impressione Sinfonica" is a virtuoso masterpiece characterized by the Golden Age of the piano. The award-winning Maltese pianist Charlene Farrugia has intensively studied the life and work of composers from her homeland. She completed her doctorate with a dissertation on the piano repertoire for the left hand. As an ambassador for EMMA for Peace (Euro-Mediterranean Music Academy) under the auspices of UNESCO, she is currently associate professor of piano at the Music Academy of the Juraj Dobrila University in Pula, Croatia. She has toured extensively throughout Europe, North America and the Far East.
