Memento vivere

in 2014 Eric Montalbetti had already gained 20 years of experience as artistic director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, while simultaneously composing, an activity he had practiced since childhood and which he only made public in 2015. He is aware of the legacy of Debussy and Messiaen ("my very first heroes") and is well versed in the serialism of Boulez, whose courses he attended at the College de France, and is fascinated by the tonal nuances of spectral music. Éric Montalbetti is seeking a convergence point, a possible synthesis that enables him to merge modality and serialism without rejecting the harmonic contours of composers such as Murail. This new album, devoted to the work of Montalbetti, contains a flute concerto that was written at the suggestion of Emmanuel Pahud: the evocative title is Memento vivere (Remember that you must live).
