Antonio Domenico Nola was active in the field of sacred music in the 17th and 18th centuries in Naples; however, little is known about his life. The "Motetti pastorali per la solennità del Santo Natale" rediscovered in the archive of the Biblioteca dei Girolamini, which are recorded here for the first time, stage the birth of Christ as a Latin oratorio, in which airy recitatives, trios, quartets and pastoral sounds merge into a dramaturgy with lively emotional power. Counterpoint, linguistic eloquence and folk sound together form a unique Christmas fresco.
