On this CD, listeners will find a unique collection of transcriptions of well-known works played on the carillons of the Cathedral and Nicolai churches in Utrecht, the Netherlands. These fantastic instruments were built in the 17th century by renowned carillon builders François and Pieter Hemony. The exceptional range of the Cathedral carillon, with its extra low B flat and G, is exploited extensively in the selection from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas; this piece lasts a good 20 minutes and is one of the most important works on the CD.
