On 10 November 2023, the renowned German conductor and composer Johannes Kalitzke presented himself in a dual role as conductor and composer with the world premiere of his "Zeitkapsel", a "danse macabre for large orchestra" commissioned by musica viva, and Luc Ferrari's "Histoire du Plaisir et de la Desolation", a sonic quest for "new sensuality". Both compositions can be experienced on this album as a live recording of the musica viva concert. The orchestral piece is representative of time capsules in a material sense and contains musical artefacts from different periods and cultures that were later rediscovered and characterise the sonic context of the piece, above all the first acoustic recording in history: a recording of sound waves on paper from 1860. Fragments of it can be heard at the end of the piece, as a revelation. Luc Ferrari's "Histoire du Plaisir et de la Desolation" for orchestra was written in 1979-1981 commissioned by Radio France for the Orchestre National de France and had its premiere in 1982 in Paris by this orchestra conducted by Michael Luig. Orchestral music is not necessarily what one associates with the name Luc Ferrari. The composer, who died young, became known especially as an exponent of "musique concrète", who showed new creative ways of using tape technology.
