No Strings Attached

With the release of The Queen's Favourites in 2021, La Petite Écurie gave listeners an insight into the original repertoire for oboe ensemble that was very much in vogue during the time of Queen Anne (around 1700). The debut album received five Diapasons in the prestigious French magazine and numerous rave reviews. The International Double Reed Society described the "beautiful tone, precise intonation, rhythmic power and beautiful sense of style". The inspiration for La Petite Écurie's latest album, No Strings Attached, comes from the preface of the thirteen Musikalische Concerte by Johann Christian Schieferdecker, in which he states: "They are composed so carefully that they, in the absence of the necessary people, can also be performed with only 4 parts, namely 3 hautbois and 1 fagot". With this sentence, Schieferdecker summarizes the basic idea that strings are sometimes unnecessary! No Strings Attached presents music by composers from Germany (Schieferdecker & Keiser), France (Boismortier & Dornel), Italy (Vivaldi) and England (Händel & Purcell), whose compositions demonstrate the endless virtuosic possibilities of the oboe ensemble.
