With the release of this album, Coro Euridice from Bologna achieves an important goal in the dissemination of some choral works by two composers, Ildebrando Pizzetti (*Parma 1880; +Rome 1968) and Giorgio Federico Ghedini (*Cuneo 1892; +Genua Nervi 1965), who stand at the top of Italian choral music of the 20th century. Unfortunately, most of these masterworks rarely appear in concert programs and are therefore little known. These compositions are stylistically very different, but their musical quality displays a clear profile of expressive depth and aesthetic consistency of Italian choral music from the early 20th century. The imposing polyphonic structure of Pizzetti's Requiem and the 'Neo-Madrigalism' (as Massimo Mila called the musical style) that Giorgio Federico Ghedini adopted, are both based on influences from Gregorian chant and on the stylistic modules of the compositional heritage of the Renaissance, whose rediscovery forms the basis of this music.
