Orchestral Music, Volume Four

From the beginning of the 20th century until the so-called "Anschluss", which forced him into exile in America, Richard Stöhr was as a composer, teacher and author one of the most prominent figures in Viennese musical life. Earlier releases in this recording series have already demonstrated that he had a completely individual style, somewhere between Bruckner, Mahler, Korngold and Strauss. This comes to full expression in his Chamber Symphony from 1912, a luminous score that is orchestrally modest, but expansive and generous in its unceasing stream of beautiful melodies.
