Organ Reflections
Ariel Lanyi
The young pianist Ariel Lanyi is already a force to be reckoned with on the concert platform. Following his cd debut as part of the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Series and his third prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition of 2021, he received the prestigious Prix Serdang from Rudolf Buchbinder in 2023. In contrast to the intimacy of his Schubert album, Organ Reflections is a project of a more epic scale. The organ, often referred to as the "queen of instruments," has had a decisive influence on classical music and has inspired composers such as Bach, Brahms and Messiaen. On this album, Ariel Lanyi performs works by three virtuoso organists who combine the idiomatic grandeur of the organ with the flexibility of the piano. From Mozart's contemplative "Andante" to Franck's lyrical "Prelude, Aria et Final" and Reger's monumental "Variaties en Fuga op een Thema van Bach", each piece reflects a unique blend of the sound worlds of the organ and the piano, and showcases the eternal legacy of this most majestic instrument.
