Pieces inedites pour Flute

Although Marin Marais is best known for his works for viola da gamba, he also composed for flute. Recently, Michael Lynn discovered some manuscripts with pieces for flute and basso continuo and duets, which caught the attention of François Lazarevitch and Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, who now present the first recordings of these works. "This new terrain did not open up to me right away, but only after more than a year of exploration... What is fascinating is that these pieces by Marais are not comparable to anything already known in the flute repertoire; the flute was then, around 1700, still a very young instrument," says the great flutist. François Lazarevitch has brought his regular partners Éric Bellocq (lute) and Lucile Boulanger (viola da gamba) to accompany him, who also plays "Les Voix humaines," one of the great masterworks written for her instrument.
