In 2024, it is 500 years since Ronsard was born, the Prince des Poètes, whose poems were set to music more than four hundred times over the centuries. The program, compiled by Denis Raisin Dadre, compares different settings of the same sonnet by 16th-century musicians (Gardane, Lassus, Castro, Bertrand, Costeley) and later composers such as Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns, Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel, Théodore Gouvy, Pauline Viardot and Arthur Honegger, who were all seduced three centuries later by the same Bonjour mon cœur and the famous Mignonne, allon voir si la rose. A truly fascinating playlist of songs inspired by a genius whose beautiful, popular and pleasant style has stood the test of time. The musicians of Doulce Mémoire perform the Renaissance settings, while singer Marc Mauillon and pianist Anne Le Bozec interpret the songs from the 19th and 20th centuries.
