Alto proudly presents groundbreaking recordings of Tchaikovsky's masterworks by two legendary Russian pianists, Emil Gilels and Tatiana Nikolayeva, with the USSR State Symphony Orchestra conducted by the great Kirill Kondrashin. This new production features Emil Gilels in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 in a live recording from 1962, first released on LP by Musica, and Tatiana Nikolayeva in the Concert Fantasy in G minor, Op. 56, from Melodia's Moscow recordings from 1952, both lovingly remastered and restored from the original sources for Alto by sound engineer Paul Arden-Taylor.
