Hans Zender's new interpretation of Schuberts Winterreise transforms a well-known piano cycle into a vivid orchestral journey that combines intimacy and intensity. Tenor Allan Clayton and conductor Nicholas Collon lead the Aurora Orchestra through a landscape of broken memories, where folk simplicity meets Mahlerian grandeur and Bergiann expressionism. Zender retains Schubert's vocal line, but enriches the sonic landscape with guitar, accordion, melodica and striking orchestral effects that evoke storms, frozen tears and fleeting dreams. This interpretation reinforces the raw truth of the cycle about love, loss and despair and offers the audience a deeply modern, compelling encounter with one of the most haunting masterworks in classical music.
