Sinfonia concertante

This recording is a voyage of discovery through the concert music of Miklos Rozsa, known to many only from his film music ("Spellbound", "Ben-Hur", "Quo Vadis" and others). In the "Rhapsody for cello and orchestra", premiered by Pierre Monteux, the young composer found his own voice for the first time. According to Rozsa, the "Notturno ungherese" is "a nostalgic nocturne that harks back to my youthful memories in Hungary". And the double concerto, the "Sinfonia concertante for violin and cello", a late work, is one of the least "cinematic" in his oeuvre and perhaps his most underrated masterpiece. Gregor Piatigorsky and Jascha Heifetz, who encouraged him, never performed it, but Harriet Krijgh and Nikita Boriso-Glebsky did on this new album.
