Flor Alpaerts (1876-1954) was one of the most important Flemish musical personalities during the interwar period. Born in the shadow of the Carolus Borromeuskerk, he studied at the Antwerp music school, where he graduated in 1901. In that same year, Peter Benoit died, the inspirator of this institution, which had been elevated to 'Royal Conservatory' a few years earlier. Alpaerts would teach almost his entire career at the conservatory in his native city and even served as director from 1933 to 1941.
