Conductor Bar Avni, winner of the La Maestra Competition 2024 in Paris and winner of four other prizes, is pursuing a promising career. The Israeli-born musician initially studied percussion before turning to conducting. Her mentors are Yoav Talmi, Barbara Hannigan and Ayelet Geva; she has also assisted conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Klaus Mäkelä and Myung-Whun Chung. Avni is known for deliberately seeking out programmes off the beaten path. This is also evident from her first recording with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, which brings together music by Charlotte Sohy, Darius Milhaud, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Igor Stravinsky. The programme opens with Sohy's symphony "Grande Guerre", which was composed in 1914 but premiered only in 2019. Milhaud composed his first of six Petites Symphonies in 1917 when he was secretary to the French ambassador in Brazil, Paul Claudel. The sparkling symphony by C.P.E. Bach from 1775 leads to the last work by Stravinsky - his first major composition after his move to the US around 1940, the Symphony in Three Movements... Three movements is the red thread running through the works of this symphonic journey.
