This disc is from Elgar Festival made in 2008. The Second Symphony, dedicated to the late King Edward VII, who died in 1910. Usually No.2 is recorded in a pairing with the First Symphony. In some cases this work is released by itself and it has received more critical evaluations in recent years. Askenazy and the orchestra leave their definite autograph and give this symphony the stature that it deserves.
