With this "colorful" selection of pieces, we want to give an impression of the diverse repertoire that has been collected in the Turin tablature. The motets and liturgical works were probably intended for performance in the church, while dances and madrigals were more intended for secular occasions: at festivals, celebrations and for domestic music-making. Toccatas and ricercars could be played in both ecclesiastical and secular occasions. [Given the great diversity of applications of this repertoire, we have used a great variety of instruments.] Thus, in addition to the Marx-Günzer organ, three other string instruments were used: a clavicytherium based on a South German design from the 17th century, a virginal based on Michael Praetorius (1619) and a harpsichord based on a seventeenth-century Italian design.
