Tales of Fate

The renowned guitarist Christophe Dejour has bundled here four works which, due to unforeseen and in some cases fateful circumstances, only had their premieres many years after their composition. Both Óscar Esplá's groundbreaking "Tempo di Sonata" and Ignace Strasfogel's monumental "Prelude, Elegy and Rondo" were written for Andrés Segovia, but remained hidden for decades. Alois Hába's neglected "Guitar Sonata" is a fantastic work of the highest musical quality. Antonio José's music was forbidden in Spain under the Franco regime, but his extraordinary "Guitar Sonata", composed in 1933 and only rediscovered in the late 1980s, is a true masterpiece.
Christophe Dejour was born in 1968 in Copenhagen and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, where he studied with Alberto Ponce. Dejour has premiered works by Danish composers both in Denmark and abroad. He appeared on radio and television and contributed to recordings of new Danish music. He has also organized various concerts and arranged music for the theater. In 1997, Dejour founded the guitar ensemble Trio Campanella, which gained international recognition. Dejour has invested much time in research to find the manuscripts that made "Tales of Fate" possible, and his practical approach to revising and adapting certain aspects of these scores to make them more playable will hopefully lead to these pieces playing a more prominent role in the standard guitar repertoire in the future.
