The Ayres we breathe

"The Ayres We Breathe" contains English lute songs from the 16th and 17th centuries, but also melodious instrumental pieces or fantasies from that period, which are also called "ayre". Johann Sebastian Bach's third English Suite concludes the English programme with a wink. Recorder player Hester Groenleer and harpsichordist Matthias Havinga explore pieces by Playford, Lawes, Purcell and Locke. "Deare, if you change" is a song by John Dowland, the father of the ayres.
