The Beauty and the Bow

Christine Walevska has been at the center of the cello world since her first international concert performances at the age of eighteen. These early successes earned her the kind of recognition usually reserved for star soloists at a later age. Typical of this recognition was the comment from Los Angeles music critic Patterson Greene: "She achieves on the cello the unique persuasive power of Fritz Kreisler on the violin." In more than four decades of concert performances around the world, she has performed with orchestras in Germany, the United States, France, in every corner of Spain, Poland, Mexico, Central and South America (where she brought music to every major and small city that had a concert hall with an orchestra or a piano to accompany her), in the Netherlands with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hague, the Concertgebouw, the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna, Italy, Prague, Cuba, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic, concerts in Japan, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The cellos: an 1834 Bernardel in 1/8 size, an 1852 Gand and since 1965 she has been playing a 1740 Bergonzi.
