Meditative simplicity The reform efforts of the Cistercians naturally also had consequences for the liturgy, whose music was freed from "unnecessary ornamentation" and still fascinates today with its contemplative, meditative simplicity. The 3-cd box brings together three very different recordings of this music: a complete vespers with the chants for the feast of Maria's Birth, the second cd is devoted to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and the third presents the chants of the Cistercian nuns, who - in contrast to their male brothers - spent their lives in complete seclusion behind the monastery walls.
