The Lamb's Journey

The American countertenor Christopher Lowrey founded the vocal ensemble Altera "to form the beating heart of professional choir music in the United States". Now recognized as one of the best and most imaginative choirs on the North American continent, Altera has conceived this musical journey through sacred spheres, with an emphasis on epic stories from different periods from the Renaissance to now. The program features timeless works by Gibbons, Lotti, Scheidt and Bruckner, but also 20th-century compositions by Poulenc, Messiaen and others. Barber's famous Adagio stands alongside the moving Salvator Mundi from Herbert Howells' Requiem. Not to be forgotten are three world premiere recordings of works written or arranged for Altera by the composers Joanna Marsh, Zuzanna Koziej and Michael Garrepy, which Were you there?
