"Una poesia muta": Venetian Art in the Early 16th Century is the result of a collaboration between SWR, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and The Marian Consort. The first exhibition in Germany dedicated to Vittore Carpaccio and his contemporaries, curated by the Stuttgart museum, inspired The Marian Consort to create an album to accompany this artistic journey. As one of the most important painters of the early Renaissance in Venice, Carpaccio was likely familiar with the music and composers featured here, as they all had close ties to the Venice of that time. While some of them, such as Josquin, Jean Mouton and Adrian Willaert, are well known today, other composers from that period deserve more recognition. Rory McCleery and his Marian Consort have therefore compiled an impressive programme for this album.
