Steve Elcock was born in 1957 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He achieved an A-level in music and learned to play violin up to grade 7. As a composer, he is self-taught and began composing when he was approximately fifteen years old, which he has continued to do since. Elcock trained as a French teacher and moved to France after graduating in 1981, where he worked in language services until his retirement in 2019. Until the release of his third symphony in September 2017, Elcock was known only in a small circle of friends and family members, but his music has since come to the attention of music lovers, conductors and critics. The cd was almost immediately hailed as "CD of the Week" on BBC Radio 3 Record Review - a rare achievement for a largely unknown composer. Steve Elcock has so far composed ten symphonies, five of which have been recorded. He has also written concertos, symphonic poems and chamber music.
