Shared Treasure
In this highly personal recording, Julius Berger (violoncello) and Annette Schavan (recitation) combine the music of Ernest Bloch with readings from the Psalms. For Jews and Christians, the Book of Psalms is a shared treasure of prayer and reflection on what characterizes our lives. Julius Berger traces the origin of the Greek word "Psalmós" as a song with string accompaniment. The psalms were also always an important source of inspiration for Bloch. In this recording, his works enter into a direct dialogue with selected psalm recitations.
