Johann Nepomuk Hummel was a child prodigy, received private lessons from Mozart, was brought to Esterházy by Haydn, was friends with Beethoven, was considered the most important pianist of his time and was a highly valued role model for Schubert, Chopin and Liszt. He composed more than 300 works in all genres, yet there is only one symphony by him. The works for flute and piano, which he always treated as equals, form a central point within his chamber music. Flutist Eduard Sánchez and pianist Enrique Bagaría begin their complete recording with the famous sonatas op. 50 and op. 64 and op. 2a, no. 2.
