Werner van Mechelen - Mit Myrten und Rosen

Heinrich Heine's first major collection "Buch der Lieder" contains 237 poems written between 1817 and 1826, thus his entire early work. Alongside Goethe, Heine was the librettist of the composer; the bibliography of Heine settings by Günter Metzner (1989-1994) lists almost 7,000 Heine settings. Some of the best-known Heine songs by Clara and Robert Schumann, Schubert and Mendelssohn Bartholdy have been recorded by Belgian bass-baritone Werner Van Mechelen, who is a sought-after artist in both opera and concert.
