Wilhelm Grosz: Klavierwerke

The Viennese composer, conductor and pianist Wilhelm Grosz was a musician of remarkable versatility and far-reaching influence. Already as a young composer, he garnered much praise with his technically demanding Symphonic Variations on an Original Theme, which were acclaimed as a 'dramatic tone poem that unfolds into symphonic grandeur - on just one instrument'. The 'Little Sonata' is characterized by great depth and clarity of expression, while the waltz transcriptions aligned with the Johann Strauss Son boom in London in the 1930s. The highly original "Three Pieces" were rediscovered shortly before this recording. Gottlieb Wallisch has performed in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Beethovenfest in Bonn. He made numerous recordings for record labels and collaborated with renowned conductors and orchestras. In 2012 he was appointed a Steinway artist.
