Abdullah Miniawy Trio – Poetic Jazz Transcendence

An intense concert where Egyptian song, jazz and poetic texts merge. Together with two trombonists, Abdullah Miniawy creates a layered sound universe with influences from Sufism, Coptic singing traditions and contemporary jazz. Abdullah Miniawy is an Egyptian composer, writer and singer. His album Le Cri du Caire won the Victoires du Jazz in 2023, France's most important jazz prize. Together with French trombonists Robinson Khoury and Jules Boittin, he forms a trio that connects jazz influences with the soundscape of Egypt. The trio takes the audience on an intense listening experience where inspiration, stillness and influences from Sufism come together. Their music moves between jazz, poetic song and cosmopolitan sounds, sometimes as chaotic and layered as the sound of traffic in Cairo. Starting from the compositions and texts of Abdullah Miniawy, a hybrid musical universe emerges in which Baroque and operatic influences merge with Coptic singing traditions and contemporary sound worlds. In this way, the trio wants not only to explore musical boundaries, but also to provoke reflection on today's world.
